Nayanthara: I am shocked

Nayanthara just can’t seem to keep herself out of the headlines. The latest headliner is IPL’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) terminating her contract as their brand ambassador. The actress, who is shooting for Kuselan in Hyderabad, said she is yet to recover from the shock.

Chennai Super Kings has released a press release saying they have terminated their contract with you as brand ambassador.

I am yet to get any official letter about it. I got up in the morning to read about it in the newspapers.

But what went wrong?

I am shocked. I just can’t figure out what went wrong. I was always willing to sit across the table and discuss things with them, but their decision of dropping me has been hasty and highly unethical.

They say you did not turn up for the first match in Chennai to cheer the team?

How could I? I was unwell. My doctor had advised me to take complete bed rest after I fainted on the sets because of low BP and sunstroke. Does Mr Gurunath of CSK think media reports about my health were wrong? I was ill for three days and I can produce the diagnostic and hospital reports if needed. Anyone in the Kuselan production team will tell you that I was not shooting for three days, including the 23rd.

If I were not interested in being a part of CSK, I would never have signed up as their brand ambassador. My passion for the sport made me agree to this association with IPL and CSK.

They say that you did not honour your commitments to them.

In my MOU with CSK, it clearly states that I have to make an appearance at the star launch function, team launch function, interviews and talk shows (both individual and combined), promotional video and any six matches played in Chennai. There is no compulsion about star presence at the matches. It also says that any bonafide reason for absence can be excused.

For the star launch, Mr Gurunath called me up and said, ‘We have decided to go ahead with Vijay for the star launch. Do you have any problem?’ It was very obvious that they did not want me at the function.

Later, I attended the team launch and was ready to give dates for the photo and video shoot. But the organisers could not shoot them because of various other reasons. How can that be my fault? And, trust me, they have not shot it till date!

How do you feel right now?

I am upset that Mr Gurunath took this step just because I could not attend the match on the 23rd. I firmly believe that this is not a valid reason for them to terminate the contract.

Whether I am the star ambassador or not, I love cricket and I am a firm believer in the sportsman spirit. Chennai has given me everything in life and CSK is my team. I will cheer for them and wish Dhoni and his boys all the best.

Jennifer Lawrence's Makeup-Free Look Was a Big Mistake

ll right. I'm gonna be brutally honest, here. After seeing Jennifer Lawrence's barely there makeup at the premiere of The Great Gatsby -- I really think choosing to go so light on the eyeliner and eye shadow this time around was a bad idea. Yes, I know she's young and fresh-faced and has a natural vibe going on and doesn't need a whole lot of makeup to look good. But in this case, especially given the formality of the event, she probably should've gone a bit heavier on the cosmetics. And I'll tell you why. Jen is gorgeous, but she also has a baby-faced appearance, so when she doesn't play up her eyes, she looks much younger than she actually is. Granted, for 30- and 40-somethings, this is generally a good thing. But in her case, at 22, she actually looks more like 15 when she chooses to go the minimal makeup (or makeup-free) route. She looks so much less sophisticated -- like she really didn't put any sort of effort in at all. Here's a photo of the...

Chicago voters hedge bets on city casino

Chicago voters remain lukewarm to Mayor Rahm Emanuel's push for a city casino and aren't sold on his plan to put slot machines at the airports, a new Tribune/WGN-TV poll found. The results come as the mayor presses for the third straight year to get the city a slice of a major gambling expansion that Gov. Pat Quinn already has vetoed twice. The governor has signaled that he remains concerned about oversight and regulation of a Chicago casino as the General Assembly approaches adjournment at month's end. The latest poll found that 49 percent of Chicago voters surveyed support a casino while 43 percent oppose it. Those numbers are nearly flipped from an October survey that had 49 percent of city voters opposed to a statewide gambling expansion that included a Chicago casino, compared with 40 percent who supported it.     Historically, Chicagoans appear to have hedged their bets on the gambling proposition. In February 2012, 54 percent of city voters backed gambling expansio...

'Star Trek Into Darkness': The Secret Behind The Mystery Villain

Now that the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's character is out, why should we care? "Star Trek Into Darkness" is out, and J.J. Abrams' mystery box is wide open. So what's inside? The answer made Trekkies squeal and groan in equal measure and confused many of the uninitiated, but now we're left to wonder what it all meant. Spoilers on spoilers on spoilers ahead. When the whole song and dance of rumors and denials was done, Benedict Cumberbatch ended up being Khan, as many, many people (including the MTV News team) had predicted and Abrams himself previously denied. The choice confused some fans, since John Harrison's true identity didn't affect the story in a significant way, and even more "Trek" novices had to rely word of Spock Prime (Leonardo Nemoy in another cameo) to believe that this guy wasn't to be messed with. So how did we get here? Let's take a trip back through a "Star Trek" wormhole. Planting The Space...
